Review: Creme of Nature Argan Oil Gloss and Shine Polisher

Friday, October 15, 2010

Ciao Bellas,
In a recent post I reviewed Creme of Nature's Argan Oil Intensive Conditioning Treatment (Lovedd it, and you can check out the review here if you missed it), and I also mentioned wanting to get my hands on the Gloss & Shine Polisher as well. I went to Sally Beauty Supply last week and scored the last bottle on the shelf (along with more of the intensive conditioning treatment...I'm a fiend like that), and here's the details...

What it is: Creme of Nature Argan Oil Gloss & Shine Polisher (Retailing at $7.99 at Sally's, or $7.19 if your a Beauty Club Member)

What it claims: To instantly add shine, and smooth hair while strengthening it, controlling frizz, and sealing in moisture. According to the blurb on Sally's website, the formula is infused with certified organic Argan Oil from Morocco.

What it done did: I tried using the Gloss & Shine Polisher 2 different ways, on 3 different hair types (It's wonderful to have younger sisters that let you try out new hair products on them =] ). The first way was by mixing it with the Intensive Conditioning Treatment (after shampooing, then putting on a plastic cap, and using heat via the dryer for about 15 minutes, rinsed, used leave in products, and styled. Random tip: In a pinch saran wrap + a blowdryer = ghetto fabulous plastic hair cap) and using it to get the benefits of a intensive treatment & hot oil treatment at the same time (as suggested in the Sept/Oct 2010 issue of Sophisticates Black Hair Styles and Care Guide Magazine). I did this on both of my sisters, one of which has a wave nouveau and the other has relaxed hair (with quite a bit of new growth). I found that they both had very similar results, as both of their hair was silky soft, rather smooth, smelled delicious, and my sister that's rocking the wave nouveau had absolutely no issues detangling her hair after washing it out (it should be noted that since the product has a very lightweight formula and thus is easily absorbed into the hair, it's suggested that it be used on damp hair - and as protection from thermal styling- though it can be used on dry hair as well).

Since I'd just recently gotten my hair done, and wasn't ready to wash it I decided to try the Gloss & Shine Polisher out on my dry hair (which is relaxed and highlighted. I'm very good about keeping it moisturized and stretching my relaxers though, so it's rather healthy and growing), and I also had favorable results. Smooth hair, subtle shine, frizz kept in check, and once again delicious smelling hair.

The Verdict: As far as I'm concerned Creme of Nature's Gloss & Shine Polisher is a keeper for my sisters and I (especially when used with the Intensive Conditioning Treatment), as it's lightweight (so our hair doesn't feel weighed down, or look like a hot greasy mess after), and seems to do what it claims. It terms of the texture of the product, it has this sort of thin almost...wax like (I'm not sure how to explain it) consistency that I thought was interesting...but since I'm liking the results I don't find it to be an issue.

Ingredients (as printed on the packaging, and posted on Sally's Website): Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone, Argania Spinosa Kernel oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Honey (Mel) (Miel), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Cocodimonium Hydroxypropyl Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Benzophenone-3, Phenyl Trimethicone, Parfum (Fragrance), Linalool, Methyldibromo Glutaronitrile, Phenoxyethanol

Stylishly Yours,
Ms. Fab
