Creme of Nature Argan Oil Intensive Conditioning Treatment Review

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Ciao Bellas,
In the September / October 2010 issue of Sophisticates Black Hair Styles & Care Guide, there was an interview done with Creme of Nature's Brand Manager Teneya Gholston which focused on announcing their new Argan Oil line. I'd never really used any Creme of Nature products on my own, but I think that my stylist uses their products at her salon...and I'd heard a lot of great things about Argan Oil (specifically when used on ethnic hair), so the article (and snappy ads) piqued my interest. So I had Momma Fab run down to Sally's Beauty Supply for me this morning to pick up a package of the Intensive Conditioning Treatment (retailing at $1.49, or $1.35 if you're a Sally's Beauty Club Member. Holla!) and the Gloss and Shine Polisher for me to try out on my sister's hair. Sadly they were out of the polisher, which I really wanted because it was mentioned in the article that it could be mixed with the Intensive Conditioning Treatment to get the benefits of an intensive treatment and hot oil treatment at the same time. At any rate, I got to work with the Intensive Conditioning Treatment on it's own and I was pleasantly surprised (EDITED TO ADD: I forgot to mention this before, but the Intensive Conditioning Treatment is supposed to restore luminous shine and hydrate hair, while strengthening it and preventing breakage).

The directions state that after shampooing your hair, you should apply a generous amount to your hair and comb it through to be sure that it's evenly distributed. Then put on a plastic cap and sit under a warm hooded dryer for about 10-15 minutes, rinse thoroughly, and style as usual. You get quite a bit of the product in the package (especially for $1.49), and I actually had enough to use in both of my sisters' hair (one of which is relaxed, the other has a wave nouveau going on. They both have a decent amount of new growth). The Intensive Conditioning Treatment has a rather thick and creamy consistency, and it has a very pleasant and light sort of sweet citrusy scent (which sort of lingers on the hair after being washed out and styled). I used it as directed on both of my sisters, and I'd say that it yielded similar results. Both of their hair came out nicely moisturized and super soft (and stayed that way after styling and drying, though of course my sister with the wave nouveau still needed to use a lot of her regular moisturizer when styling her hair). I also didn't have any trouble detangling my relaxed sister's hair, and it seemed to make the chestnut tones in her hair a little more vibrant. I'll probably continue to use it on both of their hair (and mine once I get around to it), and I can't wait to get my hands on the Gloss & Shine Polisher so I can mix it with the intensive treatment.
