Janet Jackson State Of The World Tour | OOTD

Fashion Nova, Fly Fierce Fab, Janet Jackson Concert, Concert Outfit

Last night, I had the time of my life.

I went to the Janet Jackson State of The World Tour in my city, and my sister and I wound up getting upgraded to FRONT ROW FLOOR CENTER SEATS. How? Why? Nobody but Jesus y'all, favor ain't fair. One minute my sister is dancing to the DJ's preshow music (mind you were on the top floor. In the booth, in the back, in the corner in the dark. That's a Flip Wilson reference for all my old school TV Land fans), next minute we're tapped and escorted to the front row.

Fun fact: I bought tickets last year, and got a refund when she canceled / postponed her tour for a year to start her family. I wound up getting $30 tickets on Groupon for her rescheduled date.

Janet looked AMAZING. Body snatched, hair slicked, moves on point, glowing and radiating black girl magic. She sang all her hits, and I GOT MY LIFE. She also sang to me, we had a moment y'all. I melted.

If you follow me on Snapchat or IG (I'm FlyFierceFab on both, holla at me), you saw this all play out along with my getting ready for the event.

Onto what I wore....

Fashion Nova, Black Latex Dress, Janet Jackson Concert, Fly Fierce Fab

Dress: New York Fashion Week Latex Dress - Fashion Nova | Camo Parka
(it was on sale for $15 in store) - H&M | Shoes: Old from Lola Shoetique. This is the most similar style I could find. Once again S/O to my sister @sades_shots on IG and her iPhone + for coming through with the fiyah pics.

I originally peeped the dress that I wore on Fashion Nova, when it was on their coming soon page. It immediately reminded me of that black latex dress Kim K wore during fashion week. I ordered it as soon as it dropped, and I've been waiting for the perfect moment to wear it. Auntie Janet's concert fit the bill.

At first I was going to wear a Rhythm Nation tee, that I copped last year at Forever 21...but I wanted to SLAY haha (and I'm glad I did, because they showed me and my sister on the big screen all night). I wanted to serve something fun and glam, yet tough and kinda edgy. This dress kind of reminds me of Janet's look on the cover of her Discipline album.

Fashion Nova, Black Latex Dress, Janet Jackson Concert, Fly Fierce Fab

As a wiggy, when I'm planning a look I also plan my hair. The color and style bring the look together for me. I wanted to do long straight black hair, and try out the bobby pin trend that's been going on for a minute (I picked up these gold bobby pins from H&M as well). I decided to wear one of my go-to wigs, the Sensationnel Stocking Cap Quality Yaki 30" in 1B. I have an old review on it here

Overall I had an amazing time. Janet is an icon and a legend. If you ever get a chance to  see her live, go and get your life!

SZA Love Galore Look & The Golden Hour

Nikki Tutorials Ofra Cosmetics Everglow Highlighter

I don't celebrate Halloween.

When you grow up in Church (as I have), you already know it's not Halloween. It's Harvest Night / Hallelujah Night or whatever, but I did take my youth group out to see the Madea Boo 2 movie.

Also, Chipotle always runs that $3 Burrito deal if you come in costume. This is always my incentive to dress up. My strategy is always to utilize as much of my wardrobe as possible, and purchase a few accessories to pull it all together. We already know that I have wigs on deck to aid my transformations (I chose to wear the "Inna" Sensationnel Instant Fashion Couture Wig).

SZA Love Galore

This year I decided to go as SZA, specifically in her music video for Love Galore (I got this idea from Sophiology on YouTube). This was the easiest costume ever. To keep it appropriate for a teen trip, I did a simple black outfit (black off the shoulder top and a black leather skirt) and then wrapped butterflies from the craft store around bobby pins and placed them in my hair.

SZA Love Galore Costume

Also, can we talk real quick about the beauty of photographing pics during the golden hour (the hour after sunrise, or before sunset. The sun is higher in the sky, and the lighting is bombbbb)? I need to do that more often. It's got my highlight POPPIN (I'm wearing "Everglow" from the Nikkie Tutorials X Ofra Cosmetics collab. It was given to me at GenBeauty this year), and my skin glowing (also in part due to the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'R Foundation. I wear it in the shade 420, check out my review and demo video here)

S/O to my sister @sades_shots on IG for capturing this pics on her iPhone.

Fave Fall Trend: Thigh High Boots

Fly Fierce Fab, Justin Bieber X H&M, Fall Trends, Thigh High Boots, Fashion Blog, OOTD

I've been waiting for it to feel like fall, so I could finally try rocking a trend I've never tried: Oversized Tops + Thigh High Boots.

Fly Fierce Fab, Justin Bieber X H&M, Fall Trends, Thigh High Boots, Fashion Blog, OOTD

As a tall girl (I'm 5'9") it's hard to find things that are short enough to fit the trend, and yet long enough to not be escandaloso. Bear in mind that I always wear biker shorts underneath really short pieces, but still.

Fly Fierce Fab, Justin Bieber X H&M, Fall Trends, Thigh High Boots, Fashion Blog, OOTD

When I first saw this golden yellow hoodie, I knew I wanted to rock it as a dress. No I'm not a Belieber (but I AM a believer, is there one?! haha), but lil homie does have some bops. I really liked the color, and it also fits the recent trend in racing gear aesthetic (which I've been digging. I'll be talking about it more soon).

Fly Fierce Fab, Justin Bieber X H&M, Fall Trends, Thigh High Boots, Fashion Blog, OOTD

I went up to an XL so that it would be long enough to wear as desired, and still be slouchy. I was worried that such a large size would distort my shape, but I think the thigh high boots (and my longer legs) balance it out well.

Fly Fierce Fab, Justin Bieber X H&M, Fall Trends, Thigh High Boots, Fashion Blog, OOTD

Btw since it was my first VIP purchase with Shoedazzle, I scored the boots for like $12. I'm just gonna let y'all know, you will be seeing these boots make a LOT of appearances in my OOTD's on the 'gram.

Here's a tip if you have trouble lasting in your heels: Buy heels or boots that have a platform. It'll make the heel height seem more comfortable, because it'll take away a little of the heel height. This is why almost all of my heels have platforms.

Gen Beauty NYC '17 Vlog

I had sooooo much fun at Gen Beauty NYC last weekend! It was great getting to meet so many other content creators, and check out some really amazing brands. Also, the goodie bag was LIT LIT LIT. Mario Dedivanoic was in the house to host a  makeup class (which I attended, and learned a lot from),  oh and I met Nikkie Tutorials *faints* !

I just uploaded my vlog on my channel, which also includes some of my snaps from that weekend (Snapchat: FlyFierceFab). If you were there, be sure to leave a comment so that we can stay connected.

I got a lot of dm's over the weekend asking me about Gen Beauty. If you ever get a chance to check it out for yourself, definitely go for it! It's hosted a few times throughout the year in certain cities, and I believe in Canada as well. This was my second time attending (I went to the first Gen Beauty NYC back in 2015), and I've never been disappointed.

If you really love beauty, this event is for you. It also makes for a great girls trip! I can't wait for the next one, and hopefully I'll see you there too.

Synthetic Wigs 101 Pt. 3: Application and Blending | #SecureTheWig

I'm really excited about this installment of Synthetic Wigs 101. In part 3 I show you guys how I securely apply my wigs, so that they can withstand whatever life throws at me. There's absolutely no tape, glue, sewing, or Got2BGlued (which is a great product btw, no shade here) involved.

When I first started wearing wigs, one of my biggest concerns was how I was going to keep it securely fastened to my head. I didn't want to have to worry about it flying off on a blustery day in the hundred acre wood.

I also show you guys my simple method for blending my wigs, and making them look more realistic. If you're a fellow wiggy, and have some blending tips, feel free to share them in the comments below!

If you missed Pt. 1 on where I buy my wigs, check it out here

For Pt. 2 on how to select the right wig for you, check that out here

Synthetic Wigs 101 Pt. II | How To Select The Right Wig For YOU

In Pt. II of my Synthetic Wigs 101 Series, I discuss how you can select the right wig for YOU. It can be kind of confusing if you've never purchased one before, and aren't sure what you want. U Part? V Part? Half wig? Lace front? Skin top part? If those terms have confused you, sis this video is for you.

I also break down the color chart system in the video, so if you're not familiar with what the letters and numbers mean, wonder no more!

If you missed Pt. I on where I buy cute and affordable ($20-$30) wigs, you can check it out here

Stay tuned for Pt. III where I talk about how to securely apply (no glue, no tape, no sewing) and blend your wigs (coming at 'ya on Wednesday).

Pressure Makes Diamonds

2 Corinthians 4:7-12 says:

But we have this precious treasure [the good news about salvation] in [unworthy] earthen vessels [of human frailty], so that the grandeur and surpassing greatness of the power will be [shown to be] from God [His sufficiency] and not from ourselves.8 We are pressured in every way [hedged in], but not crushed; perplexed [unsure of finding a way out], but not driven to despair;9 hunted down and persecuted, but not deserted [to stand alone]; struck down, but never destroyed;10 always carrying around in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the [resurrection] life of Jesus also may be shown in our body.11 For we who live are constantly [experiencing the threat of] being handed over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the [resurrection] life of Jesus also may be evidenced in our mortal body [which is subject to death].12 So physical death is [actively] at work in us, but [spiritual] life [is actively at work] in you.

I want to focus on where it says that we are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed. That implies to me that we're in a high pressure situation...and you'd be surprised what kinds of things can be created under pressure. One of which, would be diamonds.

Diamonds are carbon in it's most concentrated form. By the way, Carbon is about 18% of our body weight, and it's one of the most common elements in the world. It's one of the four essentials for lifes exsistence. Common, but essential.

Diamonds form about 100 miles below earths surface, in the earths mantle which is molten rock. This enviorment provides the right about of pressure and heat to transform carbon into a diamond. To be specific, the carbon has to be placed under at least 435,113 pounds per square inch of pressure at a temperature of at least 2, 200 degrees Fahernheight. Anything less, and graphite will be created.
If it doesn't get exposed to a certain about of heat and pressure, it'll miss out on becoming what it's meant to be...and it'll become something less.

Sometimes you might feel like you've been forgotten, or buried underneath all your problems and situations...but don't give up! When things get hot, don't give up! When you give up, not only do you setting for recieving less...you also settle for becoming less than what God is making you into. No matter what it looks ore feels like, don't give up! God has a plan, this is intentional and it's all working for your good.

Galatians 6:9 says "And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart." Yeah we may get tired, and it might get hot, and it's a lot to deal with...but it's only seasonal. Fruit out of season can mess us up, if we get the right thing  at the wrong time, we're not ready to handle it. So much like the carbon, we have to be exposed to the right conditions to become a diamond. The right things, people, situations, the right about of heat and pressure in order for this diamond to be formed.

I promise, this isn't a bio lesson, but most of the diamonds that we see today were formed millions to billions of years ago. We see and are attracted to their shine now, but we forget the process that it went through to become a diamond. This reminds me of how God says that He knew us before we were even born, but that's another message for another time. Anyways, what usually brings diamonds to the surface is a powerful magma eruption, which basically pushes diamonds up through the earths mantle and crust in a few hours.

So even though your process may seem to be taking awhile, take joy in knowing that when it is your time (because your time will come!) you're coming out fast!

You've heard of iron sharpens iron right? (Proverbs 27:17), well because Diamonds are so hard they can only be scratched by another diamond. Nothing else can really affect or cut it. Eventually it gets cut, polished, and all those things. It goes through it's process, becomes what it was destined to become (because it stayed in the process), and then gets refined and polished. Don't forget where it started though, common, ordinary, but when it's exposed to the right amount of pressure and heat...it becomes something so beautiful.

No matter what part of the process that you're in today, don't give up. You may be pressed, but you're not crushed. Persecuted, but not abandoned. Struck down, but most certainly not destroyed.

So this morning, trust God to do what He promised. Your contents may be under pressure, but you're coming out of this a diamond!

I write and share these devotionals every other Sunday morning,  during WBRU's gospel morning show (95.5 FM). Be sure to tune in!

Come Up A Little Higher

Last summer I went to Atlanta with some of my friends for a Christian conference. At one point on the way there, we experienced a little turbulence. The funny thing about turbulence is, while you never expect it (on that plane your voluntarily got on)...we know that it's always an in-flight possibility. The definition of turbulent, is something causing unrest, violence, or disturbance. It's characterized by agitation or tumult.

People often talk about God being the pilot, and them being the co-pilot...but quite frankly we don't even belong in the cockpit. When you see everything coming at you, and everything there is to deal with...you can start to panic. We need to calm down, quit tripping, and trust God to take us safely to our destination. If it get's rocky in the meantime, just sit down and buckle up.

Isaiah 43:4-7 says: Because you are precious in My sight, You are honored and I love you, I will give other men in return for you and other peoples in exchange for your life. 5 “Do not fear, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east [where they are scattered], And gather you from the west. 6 “I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ And to the south, ‘Do not hold them back.’ Bring My sons from far way And My daughters from the ends of the earth, 7 Everyone who is called by My Name, Whom I have created for My glory, Whom I have formed, even whom I have made.”

Have you ever seen somebody try to open the emergency door in the middle of a flight? No. And do you know why? That'd be incredibly dangerous and crazy. In that same way, when God is flying the plane we have to buckle up and not try to get off before He gets us to our arrival destination.

That's how we miss so many things, because right when it gets hard, or it feels like it's taking too long, or we feel like we're barely hanging on....we're ready to let go. Don't you know that God says in His word that we're more than conquerors?

Don't be scared if you don't recognize the route God is taking you, or if it's different from previous things He's brought you through.

You've never experienced THIS kind of victory before.

Get ready! God hasn't forgotten you, or lost track. He's already been on the move!

Isaiah 40:27-31 says: Why, O Jacob, do you say, and declare, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord, And the justice due me escapes the notice of my God”? 28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth Does not become tired or grow weary; There is no searching of His understanding. 29 He gives strength to the weary, And to him who has no might He increases power. 30 Even youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly, 31 But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] Will gain new strength and renew their power; They will lift up their wings [and rise up close to God] like eagles [rising toward the sun]; They will run and not become weary, They will walk and not grow tired.

I often wondered what made the eagle so special, that it is used for this illustration. Well, here's a few facts:

Eagles are built differently from other birds of prey.
They have a more powerful build, heavier head and beak, and they are larger. I can relate to that, You see, I discovered at an early age that I would never fit or blend in no matter how much I tried.

Eagles fly alone for the most part
Sometimes, God seems to be separating us from the others...so He can work on us and in us. It can feel lonely, but because He promised to never leave us or forsake us...we're never truly alone.

No other bird can reach the height, and they don't mix or socialize with other kinds of birds.
I think that's why they don't mix or socialize with like chickens, or pigeons. They're not built for the same stuff, they don't have the same destination. Lowkey, that's why we can't mix with everybody. We ain't all built for the same stuff, called to the same thing. Everybody ain't happy for you, some people are preying on you instead of praying for you...but y'all don't hear me. Learn to protect the anointing on your life.

Eagles have a keen eyesight, so they can spot prey from a distance. Once they see their target, they focus and go after it.
This too reminds me of myself. Sometimes my goals feel so big and far away, but I know that if God let me see it (and know that it's possible for my life), He's gonna let me get it. So my vision is locked, and I won't stop till I get it.

Eagles are powerful fliers, and soar on thermal columns (an atmospheric phenomenons that occur when air rises due to heat... we see these in storms). It uses the wind to help it soar, and it's the only bird that loves storms because it uses them to push them higher.
You see, this goes back to not mixing with everybody. The thing that God uses to push you higher, make you stronger, those storms, those trials could very well break or kill somebody else. Don't be discouraged, soar! Let God use that storm to push you higher!

Eagles don't eat dead things, they prefer fresh meat.
I don't know who told you that you could only have the leftovers of somebody else's dream or life, but the devil is a liar. Behold, God is doing a new thing in your life (Isaiah 43:18-19!)

Eagles are 3ft Tall, 15 lbs, and have an 8 ft wing span...but they can only lift about 3-4 pounds. They're not built to be heavy lifters.
Stop trying to carry, what God wants you to release. Cast your burdens unto Jesus, for He cares for you.

I don't know about you, but this morning I'm ready to come up a little higher, get a little closer, and soar into what God has for me.

I hope you're ready too.

The Man. The Mission. The Motive.

Isaiah 53:3 says: But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

As we all know, Easter is coming up. As a Christian, this is one of the most joyful and holy holidays that my faith is built on. We recognize the greatest act of love and sacrifice by Jesus Christ for us all. Laying down His life, that we might have eternal life and not be separated from The Father
Jesus, who had humble beginnings, being born in a manger, belonging to a blended family (in that Joesph was not His biological father), being human like us, but also being The Son of God. Jesus, who performed miracles, fed the hungry, healed the sick, raised the dead, and lived a sinless life. Jesus who was talked about, persecuted, lied on, tempted, tested, mocked, brutally beaten, and crucified.

John 19 speaks about His crucifixion, and verses 28-30 say: Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. when he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

He willingly laid down His life with us on His mind, and stripped death and the grave of it's victory (1 Corinthians 15:55). 3 days later, when a couple of women went to look for Him in His grave, He was nowhere to be found.

Matthew 28:1-7 says: After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
2There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
5The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

A lot can happen in 3 days y'all, and while yes Jesus was doing the work of His Father all His life, somewhere between "It Is Finished" and "He Is Risen" everything changed for us. The rules changed. Instead of being separated from God, and having to go through doing certain things that we read about in the old testament (like making certain sacrificies and whatnot) to approach Him...now anybody can go through Jesus and be saved. No matter where you come from (or even who you come from), what you've done, how you've been living, our debts and sins payed by His Blood. This is that amazing grace that we so often sing about. This is the blessed assurance, that gives my soul peace. To know that by His blood I am covered, and by His mercy and grace I will make it through, and that one day His grace will me home.

The crazy thing about this grace, this mercy, this sacrifice is that it can't be earned. This fact kinda goes against what we find easy to understand, due to our human nature. It's easy to believe that we could possibly earn something great by being good, doing good things, being a good person...and I hate to burst your bubble but no matter how "good" you try to be your own goodness isn't what's going to get you into heaven.

Ephesians 2:8-9 says: For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast

But why? Why would He do this? Why would a Man, who lived a sinless life choose to lay it down for billions of people who lived the quite the opposite. Why be beaten, mocked, and killed in effort to make provision for grace, mercy, and forgiveness for people that might not ever even acknowledge His sacrifice and gift, much less accept it.

Because, He loves us, far too much to leave us without hope and a future. Far too much to be eternally separated from us by sin and death. Far too much to leave you how you were when you first met Him. Far too much to abandon you. When Jesus rose again 3 days later, He rose victoriously and through Him God extends victory to us as well (1 Corinthians 15:57).

So this morning, if you aren't on the winning team...I invite you to join us. Know that Jesus loves you unconditionally, and everything that He did, He did for you. Amen.

I write these devotionals, and share them every other Sunday on WBRU during their morning Gospel program (95.5FM). Be sure to tune in!
